Tournament Tips (Thanks to cornholegame.org for some key points)
- Have brackets printed on large posters (i.e., 36”Hx72”W) - - Can easily edit by marker if necessary (bring extra markers)
- Have a tournament commissioner that is willing to make the call on any potential disputes
- Have an amateur bracket and a pro bracket. Have larger stakes for the pro tournament (entrance fee/winnings). Don't allow teams to play in both brackets . . . this stops the ringers from taking all the winnings.
- Have a megaphone or loudspeaker system
- The minute a court is open, get another game going. If the courts are spread out, have helpers to let the tournament leaders know when courts are open.
- Try to promote early signup with a early-entry discount. You’ll likely still get stragglers the day of the tournament, but this helps reduce that crowd some (i.e., $40 if you register before . . .)
- Have your first round planned out before people arrive to play.
- If you have a large tournament (over 64 teams), split the tournament into two smaller tournaments run at separate locations (eg. if you get 256 teams, split it into two 128 team tournaments, call it east and west or something like that, then when there are less teams the brackets can come back together).
- Only let teams in the east division play on the "east" boards (until the end of course), same with the west division - less confusion for the players.
- We do not recommend having a shutout rule (allows people to get their moneys worth)
- Have 1 board for every 4 teams - decreases the wait between playing. 1 board for every 4 teams results in a 3-4 hour tournament.
- Have plenty of people to help
- Extra Money-Making Tips: 50/50 Raffle, Beer and Food. (we don't recommend "free" beer, cornholers drink a lot!)
